FPGA Design Engineer

Job description

Coda Octopus designs, manufactures, sells and support, systems and software for the marine survey, construction and security industries including real-time 3D sonars and GNSS/inertial measurement units. We are currently recruiting for the position of FPGA Design Engineer at our Edinburgh office. This position is full-time.

Ideally you will be qualified to degree level or equivalent and have at least 5 years’ experience in FPGA Firmware design and have a background in mathematics. You will be a talented ‘all-rounder’ with digital design, verification and hardware debug skills and can work in a multi-disciplined design and development team. You will possess excellent interpersonal skills, have problem solving and creativity skills, honesty and integrity, an eagerness to learn and a high level of personal motivation, drive and energy.

Key requirements

  • Digital systems design and integration
  • Hardware Description Language (VHDL or Verilog)
  • Verification Methodologies
  • Hardware debugging

Desirable

  • Highspeed parallel and serial ADC and/or DAC firmware design
  • Design of System-level Firmware Architecture
  • Verification Methodologies (OSVVM)
  • Firmware design experience on Intel (Altera) FPGAs
  • Microcontroller firmware design
  • Embedded software development

Duties will include:

  • Requirements definition for new products or improvements to existing products.
  • Reading of Schematic design of electronic circuits and design firmware.
  • Working with Hardware Team to develop better designs for firmware performance.
  • Design of firmware for general purpose digital communication protocol (I2C, SPI, UART, etc).
  • Producing production quality firmware with timing model simulations.
  • Define and undertake design qualification and manufacturing acceptance requirements.
  • Ensuring that designs are tested in accordance with, and comply with requirement specifications, including taking an active role in analysis of faults or non-compliances, and presenting solutions to problems that may arise.
  • Preparing design documentation, undertaking design reviews, managing version and release control to meet or exceed ISO9001.
  • Developing diagnostics tools for products and related sub-systems using appropriate toolsets such as MATLAB, Python or TCL.
  • Be proactive regarding new designs and new technology that can be used in future developments.
