State-of-the-Art Technology for Port and Harbor Security
With ever-increasing trade comes ever increasing opportunity bad actors to exploit critical marine infrastructure, like ports and harbors, and in most ports the constant monitoring of incoming and outbound vessels is a requirement. Dive teams can be costly and logistically intensive. Given the large footprint of our major ports, all of which must be inspected, an inspection solution needs to be easily deployed, used by non-technical operators, while providing clear and unambiguous information on the above and below waterline scene. Our Echoscope® series of real-time 3D volumetric sonars embedded in the CodaOctopus® Underwater Inspection System (UIS) provides this easy to use and unambiguous solution. It provides real-time results of hull and pier scans that have been used to effectively guide precision efforts by dive teams to identify and remove parasitic objects from pier and ship hulls.

The UIS gives 24-hour instant access to an easy-to-understand subsea view, no matter water visibility or weather conditions. The powerful and versatile data collection and processing engine, CodaOctopus® Underwater Survey Explorer (USE) allows for the quick identification of potential threats through the use of change detection algorithms and an ability to instantly pinpoint the location of the target using a combination of GPS positioning and a topside UIS camera.
The UIS offers Port and Harbor owners an answer to achieving quick and clear results to assess whether any suspicious targets or Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) are present in their shipping lanes or jetty areas.
The system can be rapidly deployed and operated by non-sonar personnel or hydrographic specialists, for rapid threat detection in either home-based ports or as part of a pre-visit security exercise in foreign ports.
With our state-of-the-art USE software and our unique Baseline Comparison module, on-line comparisons can automatically be made. This results in harbor operators knowing immediately whether any new targets have been placed on the seabed since a previous inspection was conducted.
By reducing the risk to divers and significantly increasing the speed of results, it is little wonder so many Ports and Harbors around the world are using the UIS as part of their everyday work tasks.
